Description
It would be good to have the Unique Value symbology assignments have the option of producing a color gradient in addition to the default randomization of colors that now exists.
Because the Graduated Symbol option that currently exists is limited to fields of integer or real format (which makes sense algorithmically as you have a numeric scale to sort), it is not possible to use a string field with the Graduated Symbol option. Extending this to somehow operate on string data would be one possibility, but the number of categories would have to be equal to the number of rows in the attribute table. This might be too clunky. Alternatively, start and end colors might be optional in the Unique Value symbology legend type. A gradient would be created between them based on the number of unique items.
